Ethnobotany days at Alderleaf

I read this or something like this once…A massive tree of great height and great age, the black cottonwood, is know locally as the tree of healing for it contains the medicinal, sticky buds of Balm of Gilead.  Its heart shaped leaves are dark green on one side and pale white on the other, representing the constant struggle of light and dark, day and night, summer and winter, the underworld and upperworld…

The students made a medicinal salve by combining infused oil of black cottonwood buds with beeswax.  It will work wonders on minor cuts and scrapes and make your chapped lips happy.

Thanks Haley for the pictures…Michelle
